14 Oct Oct 14 is World Standards Day
Today we celebrate World Standards Day and pay tribute to the men and women all over the world who develop standards for the advancement and welfare of societies.
This year’s theme, “Standards level the playing field,” stresses the importance of using international standards especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) so that their products can enter the global marketplace.
The theme also underscores how governments are able to protect their citizens and allow access to better quality products by mainstreaming international standards into their regulations and policies.
In a multi-polar world, where the influence and economic weight of emerging economies is shifting the balance of power, international standards stimulate trade, overcome artificial trade barriers and help level the playing field. This makes companies, industries and economies more competitive, making it easier for them to export, and stimulates diversification nationally and internationally.
